They sang. They danced. And, most importantly, they poked fun, portraying some social and political issues with a satirical and critical approach. This past weekend, the Carnaval tradition – Azorean style – was in full display at several Portuguese-American clubs and organizations throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as they welcomed five bailinhos (Carnaval troupes) and enjoyed their clever and sharp-witted humor. On Saturday, more than 250 people were in stitches at the Our Lady of Angels Band headquarters in New Bedford with comedy sketches presented by groups hailing from Lowell, Peabody, Attleboro, East Providence and Warren.
